We live in challenging times, especially when it comes to the health of our children.
When I was little, I suffered terribly from severe anxiety and depression. The treatment for me back then was Prozac. It helped for a while, but over time, the side-effects made me feel worse. Then, at seventeen, I tried Zoloft and it made me so hyper I couldn’t sleep at night.
My doctor’s response when I told her I couldn’t function: “No problem! I’ll just prescribe a sleep-aid for you.”
Deep down I knew I didn’t want to live my life dictated by drugs (and I dropped her after that conversation), but I’d suffer for another 15 years before finally figuring out the role my family’s epigenetics (high copper, undermethylation) played in my biochemical make-up.
Today, we have so much more knowledge thanks to the evidence-based research and practice of Drs. William Walsh and Albert Mensah. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to help my young patients who suffer as I once did.
Mainstream medicine is slow to embrace and acknowledge the effectiveness of advanced nutrient therapy (vitamins, minerals, and amino acids), but the high percentage (over 85%) of positive patient outcome results speaks for itself.
This week I’m super excited to share a wonderful presentation by my personal physician, Dr. Albert Mensah, at the Autism One Conference in May.
In it, he describes the distinctive biochemical imbalances:
- Undermethylation, copper overload, elevated toxic metals, and more.
- The role of epigenetics and environment and how they can alter brain chemistry.
- Gastrointestinal (GI) tract issues: malabsorption, food sensitivities, and yeast overgrowth.
“Today autism treatment focuses on genetic and environmental factors, behavioral, and dietary changes. Dr. Mensah explains how targeted nutrient therapy can help cure this condition. Advanced nutrient therapy aims to normalize brain chemistry reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is what happens at a cellular level, it produces inflammation that turns your cellular tissue into a slow cooking inflammed entity. Cellular ions, minerals, and nutrients are unable to move appropriately within cells when the body is fighting oxidative stress.
The brain is a biochemical factory. Everything that you need is made, acquired internally, turned around, and then processed. It doesn’t just sit there waiting to be used. Your body is highly efficient. Neurotransmitters and neurological inhibitors such as seratonin, dopamine, and GABA are absolutely critical to brain function. These are the chemicals that allow nerves to communicate.”
I hope you’ll take the time to watch this powerful presentation, and, as always, I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments below.
If you know of a family that struggles with autism or any other mood disorder, please share this post. It is through sharing your story that we create community, eliminate guilt and shame, and bring about healing. Let’s help in autism treatment.
